== Formatting and styling ==

I strongly disagree with the latest changes to the page. The look-and-feel of the entire wiki should be left consistent, over all the pages. By using colors and manipulating font-szes, you are creating two serious problems.

First, I will not spend any minute manually revising the style of each already created page. CSS has been invented for that job, we should use it and stick to it.

Second, for people like me using a user-agent styling system, you are nullifying their effort for making the site comfortable to use and read. Right now, the Main page has become totally unreadable for me and for the players using my Stylish extension.

The rules I use to add or edit content :

  • Never format headings, neither color nor font-sizes. If something needs to change for those elements, then it has to be done globally in the site's CSS stylesheet, not on individual pages.
  • Never color anything. Same logic, if something needs to be changed, then globally, not locally. The only exception being cases where you know exactly that you want to set both foreground and background colors (for instance, the nt* templates I created, which generate ACGU)

Since no debate is occurring, I'm reverting the changes now.

== Top Level Organization ==

I think there is a very basic difference between challenge/player puzzles and lab puzzles, and that that is best reflected in the top-level organization of Resources for Players.  For example, we might make it something like this:

EteRNA Dictionary
Educational resources
Script Documentation
Frequently Asked Questions

Challenge/Player Puzzles
Tips and Tricks
Player-Created Guides
Puzzle Walkthroughs

Lab Projects
Tips and Tricks
  Player-Created Guides
Online Databases
Computational Tools

Any thoughts on that? -- Omei

Personally, I find the main page overloaded. I agree about the dichotomy, and I wonder if the main page shouldn't be simplified. Two links to the big areas, EteRNA The Game, and another zone, EteRNA The Science. On those pages, presentation and links to the related materials. Thoughts?

Nando, if you mean removing the second level, so Resources for Players becomes

EteRNA Dictionary
Educational resources
Script Documentation
Frequently Asked Questions
Challenge/Player Puzzles
Lab Projects

that sounds good to me.

As an aside, what do you guys use here to generate a full signature with time and date?

For signatures, just the MediaWiki method, it works here apparently.

== Important? ==

Is DictionaryBot so fundamentally important that it must be mentioned on the Main Page, specially in the section introducing the game?

Seriously...

No, especially when it's half-broken.  That and LinkBot on the frontpage could be replaced with a link to an article on how to use Chat, which probably doesn't exist but I am too lazy to click a few times to verify and certainly too lazy to write Hoglahoo (talk) 15:54, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
