Capillary Electrophoresis

We actually use an instrument to do what's called capillary electrophoresis (CE), which works on very similar principles to gel electrophoresis. We frequently just call it CE in lab, for short. All of the principles are essentially the same. CE just does everything a bit better - you can run more samples, tell apart bands more easily, and get your data onto the computer for data analysis more effectively. For our capillary electrophoresis data, big DNAs are actually at the bottom instead of being at the top in a traditional gel. (Tom, dev)

Gel and Capillary Electrophoresis builds on the analysis method known as Sanger Sequencing.
