Gel Electrophoresis

Gel electrophoresis is a method for separation and analysis of macromolecules (DNA, RNA and proteins) and their fragments, based on size and charge. There exist a number of gel types, gel conditions, and electrophoresis buffers - the exact experimental conditions chosen depend on the system being studied.

It is possible to use gel electrophoresis to determine the order of the bases (such as in Sanger sequencing) or amino acids (such as in Edman degradation) in a sequence
